Stories Of Hope ~ Jane ~

January 10, 2016

Some of you may know, one of the reasons why we started this company was in hope to give back in some way while doing something we love. We decided to feature 1 story a month on our blog and a page dedicated to these inspirational stories. We call these stories, "Stories Of Hope". Our hope is to find inspirational stories that will help inspire you in some way.

Jane Nampijja

Born August 25th 1983. Jane was born in Uganda, Africa. To share her life is almost impossible. One day her story will be written and published.

For those who read this brief introduction, we hope it will inspire the desire to be a better person.

In Jane’s life she has experienced abuse, abandonment, starvation, as well as being forced to live on the streets. Nothing in Jane’s life would seem like a life that any of our readers would want. What Jane did have, was a tenacious appetite to rise above her past into a bright future that would fulfill her dreams in every way.

As Jane grew older, she had a desire to help those less fortunate than herself. She went into the slums in Uganda and hired women for pennies to make jewelry that she would take to the market and sell. When necklaces, bracelets, or earrings would sell, Jane shared the profit with the women that made them. She became respected and trusted by those living in the slums.

Jane was blessed to find an American family that fell in love with her on a humanitarian mission to Uganda. They saw a determination in Jane that inspired  them to help educate her at an International school in Kampala, Uganda. From there, Jane was unstoppable. She started the first suicide prevention awareness program in Uganda, has written a book that is being used in hospitals in Kampala by both nurses and doctors.  She not only received her bachelors in Kampala but has gone on to be accepted to the University of Utah’s Master Program in Social work where she is receiving high honors and will graduate in the spring of 2016.

We wanted to get a small excerpt from Jane of her current circumstances and what her life experiences taught her. In Jane's words;

"My name is Jane Nampijja, I am from Uganda East Africa. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Utah in the social work program. Moving the US with my two children over a year age, years ago, was the beginning of a new chapter in my life.  The experience was both exciting and challenging. I was so excited about the knowledge I was to gain from the program without realizing that I spoke a different kind of “English language.” One big challenge was figuring out how to use a text book, because I had never owned one. I am a successful graduate student not only by hard work, but also by faith in a higher power that surpasses all. It is by the Lord’s grace, love and care that I am who I am today. There is no doubt that He knew me before I was born and that He has a plan for me.

Five years ago, I started the first suicide prevention center in Uganda, the first of its kind and the only one in Uganda. 12 years ago, I piloted an HIV prevention program Code named Stay Alive in the schools of Uganda. The program is currently taught in over 120 schools across the country. 17 years ago, I lost my father to HIV and I ended up as a street child in Uganda.  About 24 years ago, I lost my grandma who raised me from the time I was three months old. Looking back at my past, I can clearly see my future. Life may be tough, but that is never the end and for every challenge is see an opportunity. When faced with a tough situation, always remember to pray more than you talk about the situation". ❤/ Jane

Jane, I hope you know how beautiful inside and out you truly are. We hope you know what an inspiration you are to all those around you. To overcome the challenges you have in life in Uganda is amazing. Not only did you come here to the states to begin a new chapter in life with your family, you are getting an education as well. That in itself is beyond amazing. :)

Your story, is truly an INSPIRATION to all who know you.

Thank you Jane!
